MONDAY and TUESDAY MAY 13 and 14

This is the last guaranteed time I am giving you to fine tune your assessment performance:  Today each group is allotted 15-20 minutes to "block off" your presentation with the table, chairs, "station" and other props. You have to use this time wisely ...if you haven't blocked this off then there will be no spontaneity  and give no evidence of preparation.

You have to memorize five speaking parts so learn one today and then add one each day....if you leave this to the last minute, many of you are going to be in trouble! This is your final...give it the importance it merits.

WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY MAY 8 AND 9

Worksheets/New Material On Formal Affirmative and Negative Commands
After completing the exercises, there was a 15 minute "restaurant" group meeting to review and revise the three mandatory commands for the assignment.

For the word "to order" in your dialogue, use "pedir" NOT ordenar.

For the "bill" use "cuenta".

In your texts we reviewed the vocab on 196, 197, 198, 208 and 209 that might enhance the dialogue in the assessments.

Do not forget your menu: in addition to the vocabulary requirements, adjectival agreement and the correct definite article determines your grade.

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

MONDAY and TUESDAY MAY 6 and 7

Today is the next to last day you will have for group prep for your final assessment. Today you should be putting the final touches on the dialogue, starting your menu and assembling the vocabulary you are going to include on that menu. You still have two SHORT prep times but that time should be utilized as a run through/ practice session.

Thursday May 2

Good morning, girls.

As you recall, we made a bargain: you had your Derby/Trivia race on Tuesday instead of today. And now, you have to fulfill your end of the bargain....

The "Forming Commands" worksheets are on my desk.

You have two columns. The left column has 25 Spanish infinitives (I know I omitted #5...you know I don't do numbers well!) Follow the steps:

  • write the "yo" form of each infinitive
  • subtract the "o" from each one
  • finally, add "a" if it is an er/ir verb or add "e" if it is an ar verb

Finally, let's go to the second column. You have one extra step here. These are English commands. Start by writing the Spanish infinitive for each one. If it says serve then you write servir, etc. Now, go back and repeat the three previous steps. remember to start with the "yo" form because you might have a stem change or an irregularity....check your yo forms, girls, and your answers will always be right.

Have a fun three day weekend and I hope all of you have the Derby winner or a babysitting job that pays really well!!

APRIL 8 and 9

NEW MATERIAL :  Stem Changing Verbs....

                                                              aka : BOOT VERBS

Stem changing Verbs use the same endings as regular verbs. Stem changing Verbs are different in that a vowel (an o or an e change to ue or to ie) These changes occur in the singular persons and in the third person plural. An easier ( a more visual ) way to remember this is to call these boot verbs. We discussed all of this in class today, made a rules/notes sheet for your notebooks and did practice work at the board. If you were absent this video may help you.

and this second one is silly, but you never know what can help you remember something....

TWO MORE DAYS UNTIL
STATE!!

QUIZ TODAY: SER AND (E)STAR WARS......30 POINTS!!

Group work: Using a sheet of four comics that I distributed, your group is to write a caption for as many of them as you choose. You may earn 1 - 5 extra credits points for the best caption. This is an exercise in translation/illustrating that slang and plays on words do not translate from one language to another. Example: the one with the pig in the bed looking at the doctor: -Doc, how did you get here so fast? - I rode in the hambulance. In Spanish  that is monto en la ambulancia de jamon. And that, mis chicas, is NOT funny.

And we finished with a puzzle/dictionary sheet on the bathroom..43 words ranging from the shower and soap to nail file and toilet paper!
And when we are finished with the words, you have an additional opportunity to earn four extra credit points.

NO HOMEWORK TODAY.(BUT YOU HAVE YOUR LONG TERM WRITING ASSESSMENT DUE).

February 28 and March 1

In your text: we went over the new vocabulary on pages 170 and 171. We did a number of exercises orally or on the board during class. Your homework on the vocabulary is exercises 18 and 20. In 18 you rewrite the entire paragraph filling in the blanks with information about where you live and what your house is like. In exercise 20 you have to do three things: you begin by writing the person in your house who each chore/ you then conjugate the verb according to the person or persons doing that chore/ you write how often that person does that chore by choosing one of the four options listed in bold print in the directions.

Review: the forms of estar on page 174 and the prepositions indicating location(we did these before when I arranged the pinatas and "critters" in the center of the class). For homework do exercise 23: rewrite the paragraph and fill in each blank with some form of estar. If you are in A DAY then you must also do exercise 24; we have done this before in class together.
